I did check another one off my bucket list with this journey to Chitlang. Strap in and get ready for a rollercoaster of lush landscapes, hilarious encounters, and unforgettable moments.

Chitlang, a peaceful village in Nepal, is a stunning place with lots of green fields and beautiful scenery. It’s known for its history, friendly people, and untouched natural beauty. It’s a great spot to relax and enjoy the peaceful countryside.

Join me on this virtual expedition as we explore the beauty, quirks, and sheer magic of Chitlang. A place where leeches, laughter, and breathtaking scenery converge to create memories that will last a lifetime.

Let The Journey to Chitlang Begin

It all kicked off on a sunny Saturday at 1 p.m. in good ol’ Thapathali, Kathmandu. I joined the Batuwa Trip crew, but guess what? I was the lone wolf in the pack. Everyone else had a buddy, I had my backpack and my wits.

After an exciting two-and-a-half-hour bus ride, we landed at Bheda Farm in Chitlang

A field of emerald green grass where sheep chow down. But, there was a twist, Mr. Sun was on full blast, and leeches decided to gate-crash the party. Yikes!

But you know what? The view was so fantastic it made those leeches look like they were just auditioning for a horror movie.

The farm served up views that could give you a serious case of jaw-dropping-itis. You could see everything, green forests, the big Himalayas, and more sheep than you could count.

After about half an hour of taking in all this awesomeness, we jumped back on the bus, ready for the next chapter.

Homestay in Chitlang

A couple of hours later, we rolled up to our Chitlang resort. I was a Chitlang newbie and boy, it was a bucket-list dream come true.

Even though the sun did its vanishing act by 5:30 PM, the view was as mesmerizing as a magic show.

Before we hit the resort, we took a pitstop at a local wine spot. Wine and yak cheese were the stars of the show. And I, with my lactose intolerance, watched from the sidelines. People even grabbed bottles of that sweet nectar to take home.

Homegrown goodies, who can resist them?

Wine, Wine Everywhere… But Not a Drop for Me

I’m not much of an alcohol fan, so I passed on the wine. Instead, I decided to embrace the cool night air. While some lovebirds found it romantic, I used the time to pen a few poems and have a chat with my inner philosopher.

Rustic Charm with a Modern Twist

During my journey to Chitlang, our homestay was a real-life Pinterest board. Think wooden and red mud houses, complete with a flower garden that could give the Garden of Eden a run for its money.

I shared a room with some gals, but I must admit, I was a bit of a loner there. Why? Because I’m an introvert in a world of extroverts.

At 9:30 PM, the aroma of firewood-cooked rice and curries had me drooling like a Pavlovian dog. Living in the city, you don’t often get the chance to chow down on such rustic delights.

No need for fancy silverware or dishes with names longer than my shopping list. Give me a plate of curry and rice made over a roaring fire, and I’m in heaven.

Seriously, it’s the ultimate comfort food for us Nepali folks.

With our bellies full, it was time for a bonfire. The Batuwa Trip squad had our backs. Bonfire, beers, locally brewed wine, guitars, and songs – we had it all. It was like a mini Woodstock.

There was singing, dancing, and laughter that could rival a stand-up comedy show. I was in stitches!

Around midnight, my energy tank ran dry. Bus rides aren’t exactly my jam, so I snoozed off without even realizing it.

Next Day Fun – Mohini Jharna, The Waterfall of Dreams

Day two rolled in at the crack of dawn, and I surprisingly woke up at 5 AM. Wow!

The view from my window was nothing short of epic. Picture soft clouds, a blue sky, lush forests, and rolling hills. Throw in some birds chirping, the scent of firewood, and the sweet smell of nature, and you’ve got a recipe for goosebumps.

Before hitting the road, it was time for a breakfast fiesta. Forget fancy cereals, we went full-on Nepali with chickpeas, chapatti, tea, milk, and potatoes. You name it.

It was like a breakfast buffet straight from grandma’s kitchen.

We did the obligatory group photos, and there I was, hiding behind taller folks like a ninja.

Cameras aren’t my best friends, but hey, it’s all about having fun.

We hit the road to Mohini Jharna, but not before a pitstop for a Thakali-style lunch. Foodie alert! I might be an introvert, but I’m a food-loving introvert.

Now The Water World Awaits

To reach the waterfall, we had to take a boat ride.

I was in the third group. But before that, I couldn’t resist joining others for a wild boat ride on Kulekhani Dam. A water reservoir that was simply off the charts.

Finally, it was my turn for the waterfall adventure. But there was a twist, we had to cross a suspension bridge that felt longer than a week of Mondays.

The upside? The view of Kulekhani dam below and those lush green hills was worth it. But wait, there’s more! The bridge led to a never-ending almost 2000 steps staircase down to the waterfall.

My legs were screaming, but I was on a waterfall high. I got my first peek at the waterfall, and boy, did I forget all about the leg pain.

I raced down, high on enthusiasm. Who cares about safety when you’re on an adventure of a lifetime?

Nature’s Shower – Waterfall Magic

The waterfall was like something out of a dream. The water was crystal clear, but the rocks were as slippery as a banana peel.

Did that stop me? Heck no! I ignored safety like it was a forgotten to-do list and waded right in. No regrets, my friends.

Heading back was like facing a giant mountain of leeches. Wait, it actually was! We had to trek back uphill to reach the bus, and it felt like a never-ending stairway to well, more leeches.

Lost In The Beauty oh Mohini Waterfall

My legs begged for mercy, and my vocal cords did their best impression of a banshee when I spotted leeches on my shoes.

With all the beauty and fun tucked away in our memories, we hopped on the bus. I didn’t want to leave. In fact, I considered stowing away in the luggage compartment.

After a 2-3 hour bus ride, we were back home, bringing with us the heartwarming memories of our Chitlang escapade.

Until Next Time

In the end, my friends, this journey to Chitlang was more than just a trip. It was a symphony of laughter, nature’s wonders, and unforgettable moments.

As I look back on this adventure, I can’t help but smile at the leech-induced screams, the mesmerizing waterfalls, and the delicious rustic meals that warmed our hearts.

Chitlang, you’ve etched yourself into my soul, and I’m already counting down the days until the next adventure calls my name.

Until then, keep wandering, keep exploring, and never stop creating those memories that make life truly extraordinary.

Happy Exploring!
